　　The European Commission’s President-elect, Jean-Claude Juncker, has today unveiled his proposed team for the next Commission, which will take office on 1 November.
 
　　Michael Izza, ICAEW chief executive, said: "The new European Commission will have a critical role in creating a more competitive European economy built on broad-based growth and sustainable job creation. A new Commission also means a new opportunity to improve efficiency and increase transparency.
 
　　“Given the economic turbulence of the last years, a period of intensive law-making was to be expected. However, now we need to move towards more stability to allow businesses to operate in an environment of legal certainty.
 
　　"We had called for greater focus on key priority areas, creating clusters of commissioners. Today’s announcement suggests a move in that direction. We look forward to a smooth parliamentary hearing process and to working with the new Commissioners to help support European businesses to compete more effectively in a global context."
